Thomas Blake Family Therapy, Inc., a California professional corporation doing business as Thomas Blake Therapy ("we," "us," "our," or "the Practice"), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit thomasblaketherapy.com (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

An Important Distinction: This Site vs. Your Clinical Records

This Privacy Policy applies only to this website. It describes how we handle information collected from visitors, prospective clients, and anyone who contacts us through the Site.

It does not govern the protected health information (PHI) of current or former therapy clients. Clinical records are protected separately and more stringently under HIPAA, California law, and applicable professional ethics codes. Those protections are described in our Notice of Privacy Practices, which you receive at the start of treatment and can request at any time.

Please do not send confidential clinical information, detailed symptom histories, or protected health information through the contact form or by unencrypted email. Web forms and standard email are not secure channels. Once you become a client, we use a HIPAA-compliant client portal for anything sensitive.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly

When you fill out the contact or inquiry form on this Site, we collect:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your phone number (if you provide it)
• The content of your message
• Any other information you voluntarily include

We ask you to keep inquiry messages brief and general — enough for us to determine whether we may be a good fit and to respond to you.

Information collected automatically

When you browse the Site, certain information is collected automatically through our website platform and analytics tools:

• IP address (which may be truncated or anonymized by our analytics provider)
• Browser type and version, device type, and operating system
• Pages viewed, time spent on pages, and the order in which pages were visited
• The referring website or search engine that brought you here
• General geographic location inferred from IP address (typically city or region level)
• Date and time of your visit

This information is aggregated and statistical. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment information through this Site. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on this Site, and we do not maintain third-party advertising cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

• Respond to your inquiry and answer your questions
• Determine whether our services may be an appropriate fit for your needs, and refer you elsewhere if they are not
• Schedule an initial consultation, if you request one
• Understand how visitors find and use the Site so we can improve its content and structure
• Maintain the security and proper functioning of the Site
• Comply with legal, regulatory, and professional obligations

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not send marketing emails to people who have simply submitted an inquiry.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

Service providers. We use third-party vendors to operate the Site and the practice. These providers may process your information on our behalf, subject to their own privacy commitments:

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or where disclosure is necessary to comply with mandated reporting obligations that apply to licensed mental health professionals.

Safety. We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent serious and imminent harm to you or another person, consistent with our legal and ethical duties as licensed clinicians.

Business transfer. If the Practice is sold, merged, or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to the protections described here and to the record-custodian requirements that apply to health care practices.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Site uses a small number of cookies. Our website platform adds none of its own to published sites; the cookies present come from Google Analytics, which helps us understand which pages visitors find useful.

We do not use advertising, retargeting, or cross-site tracking cookies. Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is no sale or sharing for a browser opt-out preference signal — such as Global Privacy Control — to opt you out of. You can nonetheless disable analytics entirely at the browser level.

5. Data Retention

• Inquiry form submissions: Retained for up to 12 months if you do not become a client, then deleted. If you do become a client, relevant intake correspondence becomes part of your clinical record and is retained under the record-retention rules that apply to licensed therapists in the relevant state — generally at least seven years after the last date of service for adults, and longer for minors.
• Analytics data: Retained in aggregated form according to our analytics provider's default retention settings, generally 14 months.
• Server logs: Retained by our hosting provider on a short-term rolling basis for security and troubleshooting.

6. Security

We use commercially reasonable safeguards to protect information collected through the Site, including TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable vendors. Clinical information is handled in HIPAA-compliant systems.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, which is why we ask you not to send sensitive clinical details through the contact form or unencrypted email.

7. Your Privacy Rights

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you
• Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate personal information
• Delete personal information we have collected, subject to legal and professional retention requirements
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — note that we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of
• Limit the use of sensitive personal information — we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes requiring this right
• Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights

Medical information and PHI governed by HIPAA and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA) are exempt from CCPA and are handled under those laws instead.

Residents of other states

We offer the same core rights — access, correction, deletion, and portability — to residents of every state where we provide services, including New Jersey, Maryland, Wyoming, and Idaho, and to any other visitor who asks, regardless of whether their state has a comprehensive privacy law. We would rather apply one clear standard than sort people by ZIP code.

How to exercise your rights

Email thomas@thomasblaketherapy.com with the subject line "Privacy Request," or write to us at the address below. We will respond within 45 days, and may extend once by an additional 45 days where reasonably necessary, with notice to you.

We will need to verify your identity before acting on a request. For requests concerning clinical records, we will follow the health-records request process rather than this one, since different rules apply.

You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf; we will ask for proof of that authorization.

8. Third-Party Links

The Site may link to other websites — directories, professional organizations, resources, scheduling tools, or reading recommendations. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Review their policies before providing information.

9. Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information through the Site from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through the Site, contact us and we will delete it.

Therapy services for minors are arranged through a parent or legal guardian and are governed by the clinical consent and confidentiality documents provided at intake, not by this policy.

10. Do Not Track and Opt-Out Preference Signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no consistent industry standard for responding to it, so the Site does not respond to DNT signals.

The Site also does not process Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals, because there is nothing for them to act on: we do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we run no advertising or retargeting technology. If we ever adopt any practice that a GPC signal would govern, we will implement GPC handling and update this policy before doing so.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or the law. The "Last Updated" date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be noted prominently on this page. Please review it periodically.
