Terms of Service

Last Updated: September 21, 2026
Welcome.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of thomasblaketherapy.com (the "Site"), operated by Thomas Blake Family Therapy, Inc., a California professional corporation doing business as Thomas Blake Therapy ("we," "us," "our," or "the Practice").
By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. If You Are in Crisis
This Site is not for emergencies. We do not monitor the Site, the contact form, or email on a continuous basis, and we cannot respond to urgent messages.
If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health emergency, or concerned about your safety or someone else's:
- Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7 in the U.S.)
- Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room
- Text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line)
- Call 866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678 (The Trevor Project, 24/7 LGBTQ crisis support)
- Call 877-565-8860 (Trans Lifeline, peer support for trans and nonbinary individuals)
Please reach out to one of these resources rather than waiting for a reply from us.
2. No Therapist–Client Relationship
Using this Site does not create a therapist–client relationship.
Browsing the Site, reading a blog post, downloading a resource, or submitting the contact form does not make you a client of the Practice. A therapist–client relationship is established only after we have met, determined that the services are clinically appropriate, confirmed that you are physically located in a state where the therapist is licensed, and you have signed the informed consent and related intake documents.
Until that happens, nothing on this Site should be relied on as clinical advice about your specific situation.
3. Informational Content Only
Blog posts, articles, service descriptions, downloadable materials, videos, and any other content on the Site are provided for general educational and informational purposes only.
This content:
- Is not a substitute for individualized assessment, diagnosis, or treatment by a qualified professional
- May not apply to your specific circumstances
- Should not be used to diagnose yourself or anyone else
- Should not be relied on to delay, avoid, or discontinue professional care
Always consult a qualified health care or mental health professional about your own situation. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you read here.
4. Licensure and Geographic Limitations
Thomas Blake is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (California License #136903) and is authorized to provide psychotherapy services only in the states where he holds a current, valid license: California, New Jersey, Maryland, Wyoming, and Idaho.
Because mental health licensure is state-based, clinical services can be provided only when you are physically located in one of those states at the time of the session. Residence is not the controlling factor — your physical location during the appointment is.
If you are located elsewhere, we are glad to help you find an appropriate referral in your area.
Content on this Site is intended for a U.S. audience. We make no representation that it is appropriate or available for use in other jurisdictions.
5. Non-Clinical Services
The Practice also offers consultation and training services to other clinicians, including on marketing, search engine optimization, and technology adoption, and sells digital products through third-party platforms.
These services are professional and educational in nature and are not psychotherapy. They do not create a therapist–client relationship, are not covered by therapist–client privilege, and do not constitute clinical supervision unless a separate written supervision agreement is in place. Purchases made on third-party platforms are governed by that platform's terms and refund policies.
6. Contacting Us Through the Site
When you use the contact form or email us:
- Do not send confidential clinical information. Web forms and standard email are not secure. Keep initial messages brief and general.
- We aim to respond to inquiries within two business days, but we make no guarantee of a response time, and we do not guarantee that we will have availability or be an appropriate fit.
- Messages sent through the Site are not confidential in the way that communications within an established therapy relationship are, and they are not protected by therapist–client privilege.
- Once you become a client, we use a HIPAA-compliant client portal for anything sensitive.
7. Appointments, Fees, and Payment
Scheduling, fees, cancellation policy, payment terms, and superbill practices are governed by the separate written agreements you sign at intake, not by these Terms. Where those documents conflict with anything on this Site, the signed intake documents control.
The Practice operates on a private-pay basis. We are not in network with insurance plans. We can provide superbills that you may submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement; we cannot guarantee that any insurer will reimburse you.
Any fees listed on the Site are subject to change and are provided for general information.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its servers, or any connected systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Site's operation, security, or availability
- Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, or collect content or data from the Site without our written permission
- Submit false, misleading, or impersonating information through any form
- Transmit malware, spam, or other harmful material
- Reproduce, republish, or redistribute Site content except as permitted in Section 9
9. Intellectual Property
All content on the Site — text, blog posts, articles, graphics, logos, images, downloadable materials, page layouts, and the compilation of that content — is owned by Thomas Blake Family Therapy, Inc. or its licensors and is protected by U.S. and international copyright and trademark law.
You may: view, download, and print Site content for your own personal, non-commercial use; quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link back to the source page.
You may not, without prior written permission: republish content in full; use content for commercial purposes; incorporate content into another website, publication, course, or product; use content to train machine learning or AI models; or remove copyright or attribution notices.
"Thomas Blake Therapy" and associated logos are marks of the Practice. Third-party marks appearing on the Site belong to their respective owners.
10. Third-Party Links and Resources
The Site may link to third-party websites, directories, scheduling tools, professional organizations, books, or other resources. These links are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement of, or responsibility for, that content. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices. Accessing them is at your own risk.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses, or that any information on it is complete, current, or accurate. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time without notice.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thomas Blake Family Therapy, Inc., Thomas Blake, and their officers, employees, contractors, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content — including damages for lost profits, loss of data, or personal injury — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Site shall not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for professional negligence arising out of an established therapist–client relationship, for fraud, for willful misconduct, or for any liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These limitations apply to your use of the website, not to the clinical services themselves, which are governed by your signed intake agreements and by applicable professional standards and law.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Practice and its officers, employees, contractors, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable attorneys' fees arising out of your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party.
14. Privacy
Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy & Settings, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Protected health information for current and former clients is governed by our Notice of Privacy Practices and by HIPAA and applicable state law — not by these Terms.
15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Site shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
Before filing any claim, we ask that you contact us at thomas@thomasblaketherapy.com so we can try to resolve the matter directly.
Nothing in this section limits your right to file a complaint with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or the licensing board of any other state in which services were provided. Those avenues remain available to you regardless of these Terms.
The Board of Behavioral Sciences receives and responds to complaints regarding services provided within the scope of practice of marriage and family therapists.

16. Severability and Waiver
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will stay in full force. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Please review them periodically.
